6 weeks and 3 days

Oh dear, I missed out on week 5. It was raining on the Sunday, and then I just never got around to it! Then this last Sunday I was at Ushaka for the day. Our little plants are doing well. One is developing its 5th leaf and the others have 3-4 leaves. THe little one that startedoff with 3 leaves is tiny, but now has 4 leaves. Brenda calls it Dud.

Our little brinjals are four weeks old today, they are doing quite well, so far. Over the last few days, they have finally started to get a third leaf, which is still quite tiny, but at least it means we know something is happening. Still trying to work out where to put them as they need full sun, and that is going to mean a lot of digging out! I have bought a packet of watermelon seeds, but not got around to planting them yet.

Three weeks and 1 day

Didnt post yesterday because I have not been well. Yesterday was 3 weeks since we planted them. No real change except they have definitely grown taller! Weather has still not been great, with no real sunny days at all, today was the first day that it was sunny all day for weeks!

The Growing Challenge - two weeks on.

Today marks two weeks since we planted our brinjals, and so far so good. We havent had that great weather only had a couple of sunny days, but they seem to be doing ok. All of those that we planted have come up, but one doesnt seem to be growing too well. It is growing, but just slowly. Anyway, I didnt expect all 12 plants to come up at all, so I guess that we will have loads of brinjals, if things carry on like this.

They are growing!

Came home this evening to find that our little brinjals have come through. They are only about half an inch high, but they are there, and Brenda is over excited!

Photos is not very clear for 2 reasons, firstly it was taken in the middle of a thunderstorm and secondly, the lawn was mown today so the container is full of grass clippings, Brenda wouldnt let me remove them in case I pulled out the plants by mistake! But you can get the idea anyway!

Growing Challenge - First week nearly over

Well, we are nearly on to week 2 of our "Growing Challenge "here. Brenda is very enthusiastically watering our "babies" every day and taking them in and out. Iam a bit worried though, as it has been quite cool, and I read that Brinjals(aubergine) like warm, so am just holding thumbs. We have been bringing them inside the garage at night though, so that should help, the days have been warm. Brenda is quite clean to plant pumpkins next, so we will have to start clearing soon!

First post, first planting

I have decided to join a challenge on One green generation called the Growing Challenge. Basically the challenge is to grow one more vegetable from seed this year than you grew last year. Considering I havent grown any vegetables for years this shouldnt be too hard! I hope to grow more than one. Brenda is also going to join me, although not sure if she will keep it up. Today we planted some Brinjal, which is one of my favourite vegetables, and my grans neighbours always grew them. Brenda wants to plant some butternut, but need to clear some more garden for that!
